What is the Purpose of PM?

The most prominent advantage of powder metallurgy lies in its high material utilization. Its "near-net shaping" process allows parts to have a shape close to the final product, significantly reducing the amount of cutting work (even eliminating the need for processing in some cases). The material waste rate is usually less than 5%, far lower than the 30%-50% waste rate of traditional casting and forging processes. At the same time, it can produce special products that are difficult to achieve with traditional techniques, such as porous metal materials (e.g., porous bronze for filtration), metal matrix composites (e.g., copper-iron composite contacts), and complex-shaped parts (e.g., integrated gears and special-shaped bearing sleeves).
